to the skies Rignar sat at his desk quickly jotting down on some paper. His mind ran though a thousand possibilities of every piece he signed off on. Despite having only three fingers, his hand writing was quite refined no thanks to his parents. They instilled it into him from a young age. 'Just because they look like beasts does not mean they must act like it. He swears sometimes the manners and proper way of doing things to make him seem more dignified gave him the appearance of being more refined than most humans here; and even some of the Lantians.
He was in his lofty chambers up in the Anavi Hollow. His room was kept clean and orderly by Rignar himself. No Cadet or poor low ranking sod would be the one to organize his seemingly endless notes and books. All along one side of the room were bookshelves that held tomes from all cultures. In order to work with these new races he must learn of them. Learn of their achievements and more importantly, their failures. After all, you can learn so much more from a race once you see how it is they fail. Take for example the humans. Greed and lust for power drove them to destroy their only home and they now take it out on each other. This only proves that humans can be a selfish and ruthless sort when it comes to survival; they should have died out years ago. That being said, their tenacity to live and form bonds with one another is astonishing. For everything they are he has seen no more good...and no more evil than they possess.
Anything else in the room one could only guess as to the purpose what they are save for Rignar. He kept random flora and metals found on each of his expeditions. Whenever his ship goes out, he picks up at least a hundred new little things to decorate his room with. He has already had his room expanded three times to accommodate everything he has. Even some skeletons of long dead threats and weapons claimed decorated the room. Some wish to explore it and others feel put off by it.
Rignar quickly skimmed the last page and ran some quick ship wide calculations that should ensure enough fuel and food for his people. As he started to sign, he stopped. 'That's right. The new recruits..' He wrote DENIED on the signing line and began writing a counter offer. He requested enough rations for a few more bodies. Can never be too careful with this sort of thing. As he thought that, he wondered how the training was going.
After folding and placing the requisition form in an envelope and sealed it with a commander's sigil, he stood as straight as his legs would allow, adjusted his collar and strode out of the door with purpose.

The day had been a busy one, early morning training, then lunch meetings with the high Doevis family, then back to training the cadets, and then finally back into council meetings that evening. In fact Sceltyr was just now leaving the high council chambers attached to the bridge of the Avani hollow. She was making a b line to her old room in the Officers’ Wing. Her footsteps echoed down the corridor as they clacked against the mother of pearl floor. Opalescent rainbow colors brought her icy blue gaze now, their own luminescent making her eyes much like a two way mirror that had faded, you could just see through to her silvery cat pupils. Long silvery white hair trailed free of it’s normal thick braid to fall in a cascade down her long spine. She stood only 5’6 tall, for a Lantian her age she was a bit … dantiy, but-still Sceltyr held an inner aura that exuded royalty, even though she was not.
Her memories were shifting and churning as per normal when she found herself alone. Aerdis was hunting in the oceans below Atlantis, and her Ruka was busy putting the Cadet’s through some chore or another by now, the final bits of their energy would be used before allowing them to fall into coma like sleeps to prepare for the day next. As she walked her memories folded onto her time spent in Atlantis over what felt like the past two years, the longest she’d stayed within the Inner City actually. Before they made their great jump to Earth’s Big Dipper verse., Sceltyr had been a Brigadier to Sir Haelvis of the ADE Ship. Haedyn and Ionnie, two S class Specialists, had been at her wing while they’d taken every crazy command Haelvis had thrown their way. Indeed for a time the ADE Ship had been considered a renegade ship due to Haelvis’ insane antics, and ‘Field Trips’.
When they’d finally returned to Atlantis Haevlis had been placed under house arrest, and the trio had been split to different groups just before the jump. Once they’d hit Earth Tyr had been sent on mission after mission into the battlefield to fight and to scan the planet and collect information for the Council. She and two others had been given the most impossible mission. Pain pulled at Tyr’s heart and she shook her head to rid her head of memories and pain alike.
Looking up and around the corridor she realized she was already on her own Hall of the Officer’s Wing. Her room had only been four down from Rignar’s though the two rarely crossed paths, he being water she being fire you could see the conflict at least on the elemental scale. Though she had no real issues against him and she didn’t think he hated her but she would find out because she had stopped just as Rignar popped from within his room.
Silvery blue eyes swept of Rignar’s form as he emerged; she noticed paperwork held in one hand before returning her stare to his face. She gave him a polite nod “Good Skies” She said in formal meeting. She was about to go on her way remembering her room and that she still had a few things to collect from within. She had nearly finished moving her things to her new room at the Academy, she still wasn’t all to happy with her current position. She’d been promoted upon return to Aerdis, she was now a Taro Commander, and lucky her, for getting saddled with the first batch of Human Cadets. In fact it was her first time as a trainer, she felt like a flailing fish out of water to be honest, she wasn’t really the teaching type. Still she would have to figure it out she supposed.
She hovered on the spot staring at Rignar in silence she wondered whether she should talk to him about training methods; maybe she was being to hard on the Cadet’s as Haedyn had told her time and time again. Still she was unsure this Merah would even hear her questions out. She sighed in defeat of her own anxieties and turned to make her way to her own room feeling stupid for letting her own inner issues get in the way of socializing.

to the skies Rignar's thoughts were running through some calculations when an unfamiliar face stopped in her tracks near him. For a second, he was confused as to who she was. He scanned her only for a moment; a Lantian woman, silver hair, unnervingly colorful eyes, stern look with an underlying sense of nervousness. She was the newly appointed Commander. "Good Skies, Commander." He said with a smile. Upon further observation, he could note her uncomfortability at talking to him.
"No need for the politeness. I know my people aren't very talkative, but we can't all be social pariahs now can we?" He said with a laugh and a smile. He didn't want to seem off putting. Rignar had enough trouble getting new recruits to trust him. Now there is a burgeoning new Commander here. If she is one of the newest, then she must be taking charge of training the recruits this year. He took this opportunity to find out a bit more about this season's candidates.
"I am Taro Commander Rignar Blackmane of the UNA. I don't believe we have been properly acquainted yet." He said in a polite tone seemingly unnatural for someone of his looks and offering a three digit hand. He had heard a few things about this girl. One of the top riders in Atlantis and the top of her class in Cadet training if he remembered correctly. This girl aspired to great things, just as he had.
Since the subject of new recruits was likely to come up, he tried to remember who is in this year's class. So far, we had Azqua, Selene, Noxaura, Aelous, Leandros, and Ceres. If names were to give him any indication of potential then he wouldn't have a need for this conversation. But, a report is only worth so much. He would need to hear it from the trainer herself. Maybe he should drop in on the Cadets sometime. That would be a sight to see. A Merah commander; the thought occurred to him how many cadets have even seen a Merah yet or talked to one.

As he addressed her by title she halted and turned her eyes back to him nodding her head once more and taking a leisure stance fully facing him. Just like a Lantian, they seemed stuck to the formalities of polite society. As he explained his kind not talkative she nodded and smiled remembering her brief meetings with Merah’s, she hadn’t been let out of the royal’s sight though since she was 15 and had bonded with Aerdis. “I wasn’t meaning to brush by you Sir Commander Blackmane, you are correct I believe I have only seen you in passing, I’m Sceltyr Delnir of the ADE. I was just stopping by my old quarters for a few more of my things.” She paused to take his hand and give it a shake as he offered his own hand. The soft peach fuz fur on his body was soft to her hand and she enjoyed the handshake.
“I have been so busy with the New Recruits, I have barely had time to integrate myself with the other Officer’s. “She shook her head remembering the time spent on Earth again, like a leech the memories refused to leave her mind. She had seen Rinar once or twice during High Chamber Meets but other than that, she and her small squad of ‘Soul Scouts’ had been met in secret and sent on mission. Most of the other commanders knew nothing of the newest promo tee’s Abilities. Analori had decided it best for now to keep there talents secret from even one another up until they were suddenly needed. Most of her wing mates on the ADE at the time barely noticed her missing during the time of her missions. But still some may have caught on to something in the mix.
She doubted though that Rignar knew, but as she looked t him she seemed to look through him, and this was because in truth Tyr was fully blind, her world a dark shadow version of what others would see. A world in grayscale threaded through with vibrant threads that glittered the color of their origin. Each thread represent either one of the base four elements and were normally larger, while smaller threads of nearly ever other color represented off shoots and mixtures of elements, everything in the world had at least some of these strands. So in a way Tyr was not completely blind but could see more than others around her could. This sight was linked to her Soul Element, yes she was a Fire Aether wielder, but she was also something more. A mutation or an evolution back to the base energy of Life, the Soul elements could not only see the elemental threads of the world, but they could also pull those threads for use, in fact, Tyr had been training in Water fire combinations just a week before.
The fact that she could see in this manner allowed her to see the royal cerulean blue threads that pulsed through Rignar like veins. She would blink and return her eyes to his finally where they had changed, into windows of the very soul of the male merah. Tyr would see his eyes as pools of glowing bright blue and marked him completely as a water user. She found the man interesting nonetheless she was always open to learning and exploring, she had been originally a Scout Specialist after all.

to the skies This girl was something special. He could see why the higher ups promoted her. The way she conducts herself surpasses even the most decorated officer. He hoped one day they could work a mission together, then he could see her famed riding abilities for himself. As expected, she kept things formal. Maybe it was meeting another officer after only being just promoted or maybe it was just in her nature. He also noted the way she looked at him. She wasn't really looking at him but more looking into him. Seemingly searching for something. Rignar surmised it must just be how she is. After all, every Commander has seen some rough combat in their days as footsoldiers and scouts that many of them developed little quirks, such as Rignar's borderline kleptomania behavior.
"No need to be so formal Ms. Delnir. We are equals after all." He said with a wink. Any who know Rignar also know he is the same way with his own men and will come up with another excuse to rid the formality from conversation. He felt in order to truly learn of another person you must experience them when they are off guard. When there are no worries and they can speak their mind freely. He even encourages those below him in rank to speak freely should they feel another course of action is necessary. It has even saved his life on occasion. As smart as he is, he isn't perfect and can make mistakes.
"I am just dropping off some requisition forms for the UNA and if I remember correctly, it is on the way. We can go together if you wish it." He said with a nod. Why should she be left to wander the halls by herself? Besides, it seems like this girl has had one hell of a time with the new recruits. What a promising group this is turning out to be. He remembers his time training recruits. Many nicknames were given to him during his time. 'Tyrant' and 'Overlord' being just a couple of the polite ones. Still, he found that they turned out to be perfectly functional soldiers by the end of it.
"Ah, yes I understand how demanding training new recruits can be. And as far as Aether training, well, that can get...explosive." He said with a chuckle. Despite his partner who warned him against Aether training in pairs, he wanted to see how they worked as a team. None knew each other and they would have to work together to knock Rignar off the back of his Drak. Gardose's temper rose to a boiling point at the clumsy shots and it nearly flooded the training arena. It took Rignar hours to calm him down after returning to the stables. He wondered how Gardose fared at that moment.

A brow quirked as he told her to drop the formalities, he had much to learn about Tyr, she’d been … trained this way so there was no other way for her to act. However, she would try and relax a bit more. Her shoulders dropped a fraction and her ears also drooped a little. He announced his plans to drop off paperwork. She nodded and turned allowing him to stand beside her. “Thank you, that would be nice.” She smiled and started down the hall.
As he spoke of training her soul felt weighed down and her eyes seemed to dull at the thought of it. She shook her head at this thought and nodded “Indeed, training has become… well interesting. This is my first time as a Taro Commander, so it’s all brand new to me.“ She paused and thought of how best to explain her next thoughts. “The group is doubly difficult due the newest race to bond. The human’s are resilent, but at the same time, some of them are struggling in Aether studies.” She thought about Leandros and Selene’s quirks with using Aether.
She returned to the moment at hand though as her old room door came up on their right. She turned and passing her hand over the wooden door frame it opened to allow them entrance. She waved Rignar to follow her in and stepped through, her long steps taking her swiftly into the room. A hammock styled bed hung close to the Drakma bed which was close to an open bay side. There was a shelf filled with nick nacks and random books she hadn’t had time to collect yet.
“This should only take a moment…” she grabbed a spare saddle bag and started to collect things from the shelves. On the desk close to the door was a large sketch book filled with quick illustrations of creatures and things she had come across during her days as a lowly Scouter. She glanced over her shoulder to see Rignar and said “What are the papers for exactly? If you don’t mind me asking.” She said a polite smirk slipping across her lips before she turned back to the task at hand.
She lifted a spare Aether shard she used to store extra energy on her off days. You never knew when a shard full of extra energy would come in handy. She closed her eyes and using her aether pool searched and accessed the shard. There wasn’t very much energy left but she could add to it in the days to come. Slipping it away into the saddle bag before turning back and giving Rignar a side ways glance with a quirky smirk on her face, she had to admit, he was a looker, even if he was a Merah.

to the skies Soon, however, his thoughts were broken by the Lantian answering his previous question. He nodded to her as they went on their way to her room. When the door opened he noticed it has been a bit of time since she has been in here. He picked up on the small amount of dust settling on some surfaces. Most eyes couldn't pick it up, but there were some advantages to being close to animal. This was one such. He figured her recent promotion and training with the cadets kept her away from her office at all hours of the day and night. He continued the conversation as she began going through her things. "It is okay to feel a bit overwhelmed by it. No two Commanders train the same way so just do what feels natural and they will turn out to be fine recruits. I am betting this batch will go to scouts." He said nodding to the sketch book laying near him on the desk. He actually could recall the flora she drew. Asphyxia Auctus. Or Strangleroot as his team came to call it. Quite beautiful when not wrapping around your neck or squeezing the life out of you.
"I know a Scout's sketchbook when I see one. Though, you are better than most" He said thinking back to his bunk mate who did the same thing. More often than not Rignar mistook his drawings for dogs. But what she said was true, he never had any humans to train and most of his candidates did well in Aether training. "Well, these humans have relied on technology for such a long time and bled their world dry of life. Their natural connection to the Aether will be distorted in some way. At least, for some of the cadets." It was an odd revelation. Most of the time, those who didn't have a strong enough Aether simply didn't bond, so those couple of humans must have that power dormant. It just needs to be jogged a bit.
As she went through her things he noted the Aether crystal. Fascinating objects they were. Raw Aether somehow frozen in its state. Useful in a pinch, though Rignar has never used one himself. His Aether was weak as it is, so he distributed them among his men just in case. Her question perked him up and shrugged with the papers, "Oh these? Just some requisition forms. Food, supplies and the works. They seemed to have forgot the Cadets who will be joining our ships soon, so I have to send this back and request a bit more. I only imagine three or four rookies." He said wondering at the possibilities of what his new recruits will bring.

After placing the larger shard away she turned to look at Rignar as he explained what she was feeling was only natural and that would get her by fine. She still felt the weight of the responsibility. A lot was riding on the human Integration. She turned back as he noted her sketchbook and comments his thoughts on how her cadet’s would turn out. She only could hope they would all end up Scouts, at least then she would know she was training them all right. She shrugged at the comment and scooped the sketchbook from sight, tucking it away in the saddlebag as well.
She gave the room another sweep through as continued saying he knew a Scout’s book when he saw one. She blushed a touch at his comment on her talent. She wasn’t used to people seeing her sketchbook. Her reflective eyes turned back as she made for the hammock picking up a pair of long daggers and bending over to tuck them in her boots. Rignar continued about how humans relied to much on Technology and she could only nod in agreement as she stood back up again.
He’s started his response to her question now and she turned realizing there was little to nothing else she would need in the Academy apartment. She smiled at him “We can go” she waved a hand to the door and escorted him from her room and then sealed the door behind her giving it a final look, she wasn’t nostalgic or attached in a home sick way, in fact this lantian had never felt Home existed for her. The Skies were the closest thing to it.
“indeed I believe the nest’s are stirring a great deal these past two months we already have six cadet’s four of them are humans and two are Lantians.. In fact You may know the play Boy Aelous Keiran, I was the unlucky Commander saddled with him.” She shrugged and sighed with a sad look she was still worried over whether she was suited for this position. She had been glad when Haedyn had been assigned her Ruka it was nice having an old face around again. “So far I believe only one is having problems with Aether when it comes to connection, the others got the connection just have no idea how to wield what they have. Aelous nearly blew himself over the Rim the other day.” She shook her head at the memory of his dumbfounded face as he dropped over the edge. Aerdis had barely caught him outside the atmosphere that circumranced Atlantis. “I’m not really sure how they are going to go about assigning Cadet’s or if were even going to be allowed out anytime soon.” She still felt they were all being kept in the dark, ever since their return to Atlantis.
Sceltyr fell silent as she remembered being woken from Stasis, she’d received massive injury on Earth just before departure. But upon waking she was healed with only new scars as reminders. They continued on their journey a few levels up and to the opposite wing of the Avani Hollow Palace. Then finally they reached the office, not exactly on Tyr’s way but still, she enjoyed the company and was glad to be free of the Cadet’s for at least this short time.
As they entered the office Rignar might be surprised to see Tyr step in behind him. But she was curious to see what this office was about, she hadn't needed to come here yet. She stayed behind him though and out of the way like a good Lieutenant would, it was clear she still need tto evolve into her new post both in habit, and in mannerisms.

to the skies Rignar sat waiting patiently nearby the door while Tyr gathered the rest of her things. In fact, he simply thumbed through her sketchbook admiring the various lifeforms and landscapes she drew, that is, until she grabbed it away. Maybe it was rude for him to be looking at the book. She probably only shown a few select people this book and Rignar just happened to have saw it. Any worry he had about the humans being cur off from Aether was masked by his face. If the humans couldn't integrate properly with Aether then their Draks soon follow. That bond goes deeper than most ever realize.
His thoughts caught him staring off into the room as Tyr was putting her daggers away. As she bent down, he averted his gaze to look at some other decor out of politeness. He might be Merah but he was still considered part of this society and that includes chivalry. Once she was finished and they made their way out of her room, he listened to what more she had to say. "Aelous Keiran...yes, that's right, I do know him. Bit of a trouble maker that one. I do hope I get him once they graduate the Academy." He said with a devilish grin. Aelous wouldn't be the first one Rignar had the privilege of straightening out. "Well, he wouldn't be the first Air Aether that went overboard. Besides, that's why you are there." He said with a nod and a smile. He remembered his training days. He remembered that sometimes Cadets do die during training but only under special and extreme circumstances. Rignar didn't have anyone die on his watch, but that hardly made him special. Most training goes over without a hitch, but it isn't unheard of to lose a Cadet. "And as far as the Cadet who can't make a connection, it should come on its own. It may surprise you to know I had trouble with even using Aether. Merah are not known for their Aether capabilities but it never stopped us. And if Humans are as stubborn as I think they are, they will get it down" He said to her remembering his own Aether. He nearly drowned during his first day if not for Gardose who swam to his rescue.
Once they arrived at their destination, Rignar took a good look around the office to see the prim and orderly way the public face of the ranked must always be. He walked up to the front desk to see a Lantian sorting through some files and Rignar knocked on the counter top that separated him from the rest of the room. Placing his own papers down, he spoke to the requisition officer as only an officer could. "I need this sent to headquarters. There's been a mistake in the total and rationed amount of food, drink, and bunk space. Please make haste, I would hate to use the food storage as another place to stage a training mission." The Lantian simply rolled his eyes as he probably remembered Rignar's last request. It was similar to this one though under different circumstances. Not enough rations were given to Rignar's Ship as there was an error in KIA and MIA reports. Rignar used the storage facility to simulate search and rescue missions. Rignar was reprimanded, but at least it was fun while it lasted.
He only then noticed Tyr standing behind him as though she were under his rank. Was she still timid about working on this level? This was a small part of the building, what was she going to do in the more demanding areas of Anavi Hollow? Smiling, he stepped to the side and slightly pushed her forward. They were equals now and she deserved to stand next to him, garnering the same respect he does. He waved down the Lantian he spoke to earlier. "Pavel, I'd like you to meet one of our newest additions to the Commanders, Sceltyr Delnir of the ADE." He said slightly pushing her forward. She will spend more time than she wants to in this room and he may as well get this little awkwardness out of the way. "Ma'am. You do me honor." The respectful Lantian saluted and slightly bowed to her. This girl will have to get used to this now.

Tyr contemplated his responses and wondered what devilish plans Rignar had in store for Aelous. She was also confused at his utter confidence in her potential to train these insane cadets. It caused her to avert her gaze and consider other things until they reached the office. Rignar danced the paper game with the attendant. He seemed to be well versed in the ways of getting what he needed .She took mental notes on the methods he used until suddenly Rignar was introducing her and pushing her literally to his side.
Her azura eyes glanced at Rignar a littlee stiff shouldered when he touched her until finally he released her. She gave him a shaky smile and felt her cheeks flush as she gave a quick nod to the Attendant. She didn’t know what to say here or do here. She was actually having a hard time focusing on Rignar or the Attendant what should she do!
Suddenly all was calmed as another attendant rushed in. “LORD RIGNAR!” She squeaked as she spotted the man. Her mousy pink hair and bright yellow eyes glanced him over swiftly the nodding she produced a Seal Writ, commands would be concealed within them. Tyr couldn’t help but look at the Writ with hungry eyes, she wanted nothing more than to run away from Atlantis for a little while. Maybe he was being sent on mission, oh what she would give to trade places with him!
However as she peeked over his shoulder and watched his expression she wondered what the writ might truly contain. The small messenger turned and scampered away swiftly from whence she came. Tyr glanced back at the first attendant and saw he was hurriedly trying to complete Rignar’s orders. Tyr gave Rignar’s side a Poke and asked “Gonna open that now?” She was curious and interested to see what new’s it held, curiousity would kill her one day she was sure of it.
